it's not as simple as finding
the right file extension,
(I wish it was, lacking all the
folders and the seven-point
attack pattern, it could at least
be organized)
but skin is not a plaster, unmolded,
it's stretching over the paperclips and folded
origami I've built my real self out of -
the voice in my head can't tell me
if this moment is immortal,
or just immoral, if the nanometers
between the imperfection and the silvered
glass are falsifying me between the iris
and the brain:
am I more the mythos I've invented
than the railway I've become,
or have these violin string fingers
and this orchestrated chest
become the resonance
I'm so afraid of?

Been a minute since I posted anything. Stepping into the real world (beyond school, my self-defined sanctuary and comfort zone) is hard.
I've been thinking a lot about the "Beauty in Raw Humanity" thing that chromeantennae started. Incredible how some things can so connect with a community sometimes. I consider this my response to that project - I don't have much of a relationship with the mirror, though, so I wrote this instead. It's still about reflection, and physical appearance, too, if much more tangentially than chromeantennae's piece. I took the computer programming definition of reflection to mind in the piece and the title.
